One of my favorite things to make is “homemade takeout” — different types of Asian food you’d normally get for take out or at a restaurant. I love the sweeter flavors of sauces you find in Chinese or Japanese dishes.
The great thing is — these meals are usually pretty easy and quick to throw together. You do have to get a few extra ingredients in the foreign food aisle, but it’s totally worth it for a delicious meal.
While rice is often the main source of carby goodness, I prefer to mix it up with pasta sometimes. I grabbed some Barilla Plus Spaghetti at Giant – as well as some delicious sweet chili garlic sauce and went to town on this recipe!
You can actually add whatever protein you like to this bowl — chicken, shrimp, beef, pork — all of them would work great taste wise. I only had chicken so I went that route. The best part about this is that it can literally take you 15 minutes to make if you do it right!
Here are the instructions for whipping it up:
- Whisk together first 6 ingredients in a bowl, set aside.
- Cook chicken pieces over stove
- Cook spaghetti and drain, add to a seperate large bowl
- Add cooked chicken to spaghetti and pour vinegar mixture over
- Add baby corn, red pepper and water chestnuts
- Serve in bowls, hot or cold
I seriously love pasta because it is so versatile — I mean so many kinds of interesting shapes, textures and possibilities — and Barilla is one my favorites. Their PLUS line, which I purchased at Giant for this recipe, is one of their newer products and includes more protein, fiber and omega 3 than normal pasta but it tastes the same!Perfect!
Barilla has great ideas and recipes for all kinds of stuff on their Facebook page so be sure to follow them there!
